If you’re a business owner and a parent, you’ve probably been sold the idea of “work-life balance.” That somehow, if you just plan your day right, hustle a little harder, or wake up earlier, you’ll find a perfect rhythm — where your business, your clients, your kids, your partner, and yourself all get the attention you think they deserve.

But here’s the truth I’ve learned the hard way: Balance doesn’t exist.

And pretending it does? It’s exhausting.

Some days, I feel like I’m winning. I’m managing everything – the business, the kids, the house, the endless to-do list. And other days, I can barely keep my eyes open, the tears are real, the tantrums (both mine and my kids’) feel endless, and the self-doubt creeps in like a storm I can’t escape. The sleepless nights? They seem to stretch on forever. And in the quiet moments, when I should be resting, the fear and anxiety of wondering if I’m good enough, if I’m doing enough, haunt me.

There have been days when I’ve wanted to give it all up. When I’ve questioned every decision, every late night, every moment I’ve spent away from my family. I’ve thought about the weight of it all and wondered if I’ve sacrificed too much. In those moments, I’ve asked myself: “Why is it so hard?” “Why does it feel like I’m always falling short?”

But here’s the thing: real success isn’t about achieving a perfect 50/50 split between your business and home life. It’s about integration. It’s about blending the messiness, the chaos, and the beauty of it all. It’s about accepting the season you’re in, even when it feels far from perfect. And it’s about being kind to yourself — through the tears, the fears, and the frustration.

The Struggles Behind the Journey

There was a time when I felt like I was suffocating in the overwhelming demands of property management. The constant inspections, the late-night emails, the pressure to deliver more, faster, with fewer resources… it was a system that was broken, and I felt like I was just another cog in the machine. I was burning out, and I could see it happening to others around me too.

I loved what I did, but I could feel the cracks forming, the exhaustion building, and the sense that there had to be a better way. But leaving the security of the known, stepping into the unknown, was terrifying.

And then, it hit me: I could create that better way. I could build something that wasn’t just about inspections, but about support. Something that could help people — just like me — feel seen, understood, and not alone. So, I took the leap.

But it wasn’t easy. Building a business from scratch while raising young kids? It’s as messy and chaotic as it sounds. I’ve made countless mistakes along the way. I’ve had to dig deep, way deeper than I ever thought I could, to keep going. And there have been days when I’ve doubted every decision I made, wondering if I was truly cut out for it.

The Truth About “Balance”

There’s no perfect balance. There’s no magic formula where everything fits neatly into place. And trying to chase that illusion only sets you up for failure. The truth is, some days, your business will get all your attention. Some days, your kids will. And that’s okay. It doesn’t make you a bad business owner or a bad parent. It just means you’re human.

What I’ve come to realise is that real success is about being present. It’s about showing up for your work and your family in a way that feels authentic and true to you, even when it’s hard. It’s about accepting that some days will be messy, and that’s okay. You’re allowed to have bad days, to make mistakes, and to ask for help.

It’s about integration — weaving your work and personal life together in a way that makes sense for you, even if it’s imperfect. And letting go of the pressure to make everything fit into a neat, balanced box.

A Moment of Clarity: Stepping Away from the Chaos

Recently, I felt the weight of burnout creeping in. It had been building up for weeks, slowly but surely. The exhaustion, the constant mental juggling, the never-ending demands — I could feel it all piling on. And for the first time in a long while, I knew I needed to step away. I needed to disconnect.

So, I took a long weekend away with my kids and husband. It was an escape — a break from the emails, the calls, the constant pressure of work. And yes, I felt guilty. So much guilt. Guilt for taking time away from my business. Guilt for not being “on” all the time. Guilt for not being there for every client, every deadline, every detail.

But here’s what I learned: it was the best thing I could have done.

That weekend away was more than just a break from work; it was a chance to reconnect with my family, with myself, and to reset. I gave myself permission to not be perfect. I let go of the guilt, the expectations, and allowed myself the space to breathe. And when I returned to work, I was refreshed, refocused, and ready to tackle what was ahead.

Taking time for yourself — even when it feels impossible — isn’t selfish. It’s necessary. And sometimes, stepping away from the chaos is the best way to show up fully for the people and the work you love.

The Road Ahead

There’s no denying it: building something meaningful will cost you. It will cost your comfort, your time, your energy. But it should never cost you yourself.

If you’re a working mum, a business owner, a property manager, or all of the above — I want you to know something: You are not failing.

You are doing something incredibly brave. You’re showing up, day after day, even when the days feel endless and you’re exhausted beyond belief. And yes, you’ll drop balls. You’ll miss things. There will be moments when you wonder if it’s all worth it. But trust me: it is.

The world doesn’t need more women who are perfectly balanced. It needs more women who are willing to live fully, to lead with their hearts, and to embrace the messy, imperfect beauty of their journey.

To Those Who Feel Overwhelmed

If you’re a property manager or business owner right now, struggling with the weight of it all, please hear me: You don’t have to do this alone.

There’s a team out there who wants to support you, who understands the pressure you’re under, and who’s ready to step in when you need it most. And that’s why businesses like Property Assist exist — to help lighten the load, to give you a little more breathing room, and to help you navigate this crazy, messy, beautiful journey.

So let’s stop pretending like balance is the goal. Let’s start embracing the truth: Life is messy, and that’s what makes it worth living. The progress you’re making — even when it feels like the hardest thing in the world — is enough.

And you? You’re more than enough too.
